Planning Your New Kitchen, and How We Can Help You Achieve What You Want

Minor kitchen updates often include new lighting, countertops, appliances, and new paint. Also popular are a tile backsplash, and new sink with updated faucet. Outdated-looking but still-functional cabinets might be painted, or sanded and restained.

Major kitchen renovations often mean new cabinets, as well as opening the kitchen space up to other parts of the house and outdoor areas for better flow and use. This is usually done by adding or combining rooms and removing walls, which may require structural changes as well as plumbing, flooring and electrical work.

There’s a wide range of options either way. After listening to your kitchen desires and looking at your space, we’ll suggest one or more approaches based on what you want to achieve. Our staff may be just what you need, or we may bring in an architect, interior or kitchen designer, or cabinet design resource, as appropriate.

Paces works with cabinet specialists to deliver prefabricated, semicustom and custom cabinets to suit your style, needs and budget, and we can also create or modify units to fit your space perfectly. Experts may also be brought in for countertops, tile, lighting and appliances to help complete your stylish dream kitchen.

“It was a pleasure having John Beach and the Paces Construction crew work on our kitchen and breakfast area renovation. We’re thrilled with the final product, and love our cherry dining table they built.”

What’s trending in kitchens these days?

Lighter colors, tinted wash colors, islands with a different wood finish than the wall cabinets, and scattered glass doors.

Mission and craftsman detail treatments including clean, less-adorned lines, beadboard and shiplap, and rustic woods in beams and casings.

Stainless steel appliances often with matching cabinet panels. Less chrome in the fixtures, with satin nickel and oil-rubbed bronze preferred.

Less-fancy ornamentation, fewer heavily carved corbels, less ornate moldings, a less-tailored look, no soffits, and taller wall cabinets for storage.

Larger kitchen areas that expand into, and flow with, the house’s living spaces. Also, casual entertaining areas in or adjacent to the kitchen — it’s not just for family anymore.

Kitchens that open to the outside, with adjacent covered decks and patios furnished with plush seating.

Cooking and serving areas have also moved outside, with a large array of outdoor appliances. See the Exteriors section of this website for more ideas.
